The students play with their identity, explore the boundaries in their imagination: literally and figuratively. The workshop starts with a presentation of contemporary artists who work within their work with the theme of identity, examples of contemporary photographers such as Rineke Dijkstra are shown in a powerpoint.Based on their works, Barbara shows how fluid and changeable an identity can be. With this fact we will then play with identity ourselves and photography is the means. What or who do you show when you are in front of the camera? Do you dare to show yourself, and how? With the help of attributes you transform yourself, or you strengthen certain elements of your identity. In the workshop we alternate as a model, as a photographer. Very literally it is about “seeing and being seen”. By doing this together, by being both a model and a photographer, a connection is created. Van Ittersum's background as a theatrical art and portrait photographer ensures that she knows how to challenge students to show themselves and also look for what connects them. 7 digital cameras are available for this lesson.
